London - May 2024

The Remaking Trade for a Sustainable Future Project, teamed up with E3G (Third Generation Environmentalism), ODI (formerly known as the Overseas Development Institute), ECF (European Climate Foundation) and the Lord Mayor of the City of London (Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli) to organise a workshop in London entitled: Restructuring the International Trade System for Climate Change Progress and a Sustainable Future. The workshop built on existing endeavours carried out by each organisation, and brought together more than 60 UK-based government officials, business leaders, international organisation representatives, environmental advocates, and researchers from think tanks and academic institutions. This workshop sought to contextualise the Villars Framework for a Sustainable Trade System (the “Villars Framework”) within the context of the UK. That is, the workshop sought to ground this endeavour within the realities of the UK, to seek entry points and to explore how the UK could champion reform given its specific political, geopolitical as well as business context.
