Brussels - December 2024
The Remaking Trade for a Sustainable Future Project, in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign AEairs of Finland and the 3E Research Centre at the Brussels School of Governance (VUB), convened a one-day workshop to explore how the EU’s new leadership might lead to galvanize efforts to promote sustainable trade policies that align with the world community’s commitment to a ramped-up response to climate change and a sustainable future more broadly. Built on existing initiatives being advanced by each organization, much of the discussion centered on the trade system reform agenda put forward in the Villars Framework for a Sustainable Trade System, with particular emphasis on how the ideas advanced in the Villars Framework might play out in the European context. This discussion kicked off with a lively dinner hosted by the Finnish Ambassador and featured speeches and panel remarks from the European Union Commission policymakers, officials from multilateral organizations, representatives from the business community and civil society organizations, academics, and other thought leaders.
